Winter Solstice Class with Ayesha Basi

As winter months bring nature into hibernation and we edge towards the new year, I invite you to take this opportunity to move with nature’s cycle by slowing down and turning inwards. Through this Winter Solstice Yoga Class you will be supported in providing your body and mind with the space to pause and reflect through movement.

The winter solstice is representative of the opposition of lightness and darkness – it marks the day with the shortest amount of daylight, but also initiates the lengthening of daylight over nightfall. It’s celebrated by cultures around the world and spiritually is seen as a time of celebrating the notions of rebirth and renewal, the completion of cycles and the start of something new.

Together, we will move through grounding and rooting postures which emphasize a sense of safety, security and balance in the body, to provide a strong foundation to turn inwards and reflect on and/or close what is ready to be done. These grounding postures will be intertwined with rhythmic movement through yoga postures and heart openers, to embrace and celebrate the light – and invite in new energy to move into the new.

A perfect time to ground down, tune in, reflect on the past year – as well as set intentions for the future. Feel free to bring any talismans (e.g. mala beads, crystals etc.).
