Pranayama, the formal practice of learning how to intentionally control and expand the breath, lies at the heart of yoga. It has a mysterious power to soothe and revitalize a tired body, a flagging spirit, or a wild mind. The ancient sages taught that prana, the vital force circulating through us, can be cultivated and channeled through various breathing exercises. In the process, the mind is calmed, rejuvenated, and uplifted. Pranayama serves as an important bridge between the outward, active practices of yoga—like asana—and the internal, surrendering practices that lead us into deeper states of meditation. Pranayama techniques will be incorporated into our Meditation practices, as well as part of the curriculum (lecture, discussion, practice.

Chakras & The Emotional Body

What is a Chakra? The word is Sanskrit for wheels or disc. It refers to seven areas of the body that align with the spine. In these discs we store information according to our belief systems. Those that were passed down through the generations and those of our own. Having knowledge about these chakras gives us the ability to be more at ease within our bodies. It also helps us to understand how dis-ease manifests in the body when there is an overload of a belief that is out of balance with what is true. Learning the chakras and how they work, help to determine our health in mind, body and spirit and is an excellent way to pursue happiness and balance in our lives.
